Chair of the Aguda, Israel’s National LGBT Task Force, Chen and the Aguda are a driving force in promoting LGBTQ equality for Israel. This year, a new initiative of the Aguda, in cooperation with Israel Hofsheet, Shacharit and the Center for Local Government, seeks to encourage and train members of the LGBT community to run in municipal elections.
Daniel Jonas, age 35, is married to his partner Uri. He’s the chairperson of Havruta, an organization for gay Orthodox Jewish men. Havruta is working to change the attitudes of the religious community in regards to LGBTQ issues.
Chair and co-founder of “The Association of Gay Fathers,” Udi Ledergor has championed the rights of gay fathers in Israel. This past year, he has petitioned the Supreme Court to grant equal adoption rights to LGBTQ same-sex couples.
Uri Kukiya, a Hapoel Ramat Gan player, has come out as the first ever Israeli gay basketball player. This is a particularly courageous act that opens the door to other athletes living in the closet because of fear.
A law student from Tel Aviv, Omer Nahmany is the founder of Blue and White Pride, an organization that seeks to counter growing opposition to LGBT and female soldiers in the Israel Defense Forces.
