The Most Inspiring LGBT Rabbis

RabbiEllenLippman-Featured-1RabbiLisa-Featured-1JoshuaLesser-Featured-1Rabbis Ellen Lippmann (left) , Lisa Edwards and Joshua Lesser  are on the list of the 36 most inspiring rabbis in America! The list was published yesterday by The New York Daily Forward and includes, among others, rabbis from New York, Connecticut, Mississippi, Kansas, Florida, California and Illinois, who were carefully chosen out of hundreds of rabbis nominated. Rabbi Lippmann from Kolot Chayienu in New York, Rabbi Edwards from Beth Chayim Chadashim in LA and Rabbi Lesser from Congregation Beth Chaverim in Georgia, are all publically out and very often inspire Jewish LGBT people in their communities.

“These rabbis offer that kind of leadership. Whether the broader rabbinate can do so may hold the key to the future of the American Jewish community,” wrote Jane Eisner, Editor-in-chief of The Jewish Daily Forward, in her introductory note for the list, titled “36 Rabbis Shaping 21st-Century Judaism.”

Earlier this year, the Jewish Daily Forward published its intention to compile the list of America’s top rabbis, and requested recommendations for nominations from their readers. Amazingly, Rabbi Lippmann and Rabbi Edwards held places 1 and 2 (respectively) with the most nominations received. This is an amazing achievement and shows the openness and inclusiveness of the Jewish American community towards LGBT people. Congratulations, Rabbis!
