The Tel Aviv Pride 2016 events were officially launched on the rooftop of Tel Aviv City Hall, with a presentation of this year’s Pride music video, “Pink,” a cover of Aerosmith, by Middle Eastern singer Shefita.
In a ceremony that was attended by leaders of the LGBT organizations, community members and other guests, the events for Pride 2016 were officially launched. This year’s events, which are with a theme of Women in the Community, include LGBT Cultural Festival, LGBT Film Festival, Health Conference, International Conference of Women in High-Tech, art exhibition at the Nahum Gutman museum and more.
“The subject that chosen this year, ‘Women for a Change’ is not just an empty slogan, but we made sure that the issue will be reflected in all the different parts of the Pride events and the parade,” explained Efrat Tolokobski, a member of the Tel Aviv city council whose responsible for pride events case, “The stage at the parade will be almost entirely representing women and the cultural festival this year brings the many talents of the women of the community. The change [we aim to make] is not to be made in one day, but little by little we will revolutionize and place the women of the community in the forefront.”
Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai addressed the protest that threatened to change the nature of the parade and said: “I am proud to open the Pride events this year that are larger than ever. This year we deepened the partnership between the municipality and the LGBT community, and I am pleased that today pride events open as usual.”
