A Wider Bridge Expresses Deep Concern for LGBTQ and Democratic Future in Israel

NEW YORK –  Tyler Gregory, the Executive Director of A Wider Bridge, a North American organization dedicated to expanding equality in Israel for the LGBTQ community, has issued the following statement reflecting upon the results of Israel’s elections:

“Yesterday, millions of voters in Israel exercised their right to vote to shape Israel’s future. Today it appears that Benjamin Netanyahu will continue to serve as Israeli Prime Minister. Throughout the course of this election season, we have been deeply troubled by several of Netanyahu’s actions, such as building an alliance with homophobic Otzma Yehudit, a racist and ultranationalist party, and openly calling for the annexation of the West Bank, which would undermine Israel’s democracy.”

Gregory continued, “Now, more than ever, we must redouble A Wider Bridge’s efforts to grant funds to LGBTQ Israelis, and advocate for their equal rights in all realms of Israeli society, including healthcare, employment, military service, and family life. We will also not shy away from questioning leaders seeking to undermine Israel’s democratic future.”
