A Wider Bridge’s Board of Directors, Virtual Leadership Mission to Israel

We are excited to share with you our Virtual Mission Kit. It is difficult to learn and experience Israel in just 10 hours, therefore we have curated the following tools and resources to help you further your knowledge and enhance your mission experience. 

In this virtual mission kit you will be able to find:

  • Knowledge Bank: we included articles, movies, and other online resources and tools on the topics we will discuss and experience during the mission. We included reading recommendations for each item including, what session it is relevant for and by when we recommend you read it.
  • Bios and Photos: you will find the bios and photos of the speakers you will meet during the mission (we are adding the bios and photos on rolling bases as we receive them).
  • Recipes and Instructions for Cooking Experience: we included the full recipes, instructions, and recommended shopping list for Tuesdays (January 12, 2021) Israel’s Melting Pot- A Jerusalem Inspired Cooking Experience program.

Recipes and Instructions for Cooking Experience

What will we be cooking?

  • Chef Hemdat will teach two ways how to make Kanafeh a traditional Middle Eastern dessert: the classic Arab style with and Israeli Chutzpa style.

What are the Ingredients?

  • Classic Arab Style Kanafeh:
    • 3.5 oz. Kataifi (Shredded Fillo Dough)
    • 3 oz. Clarified Butter (or 3.5 oz Melted Butter)
    • 7 oz. Jibneh Arabieh Cheese (or 9 oz. Ricotta Fresca)
    • ½ cup Sugar
    • ¾ cup Water
    • Juice of ¼ Lemon
    • 3-4 Saffron Threads
  • Israeli Chutzpa Style Kanafeh:
    • 3.5 oz. Kataifi (Shredded Fillo Dough)
    • 3 oz. Clarified Butter (or 3.5 oz Melted Butter)
    • 3.5 oz. Jibneh Arabieh Cheese (or 5.3 oz. Ricotta Fresca)
    • 2 oz. Marzipan (good quality)
    • 2 Apples 
    • ½ cup Sugar
    • ¾ cup Water
    • Juice of ¼ Lemon
    • 3-4 Saffron Threads

What special kitchen tools do I need?

  • 2, 8.5-Inch Non-Stick Frying Pans
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Spatula
  • Small saucepan 

What is my shopping list?

  • 7 oz. Kataifi (Shredded Fillo Dough) – can be found in many stores or on Amazon 
  • 6 oz. Clarified Butter (or 7 oz Melted Butter)
  • 10.5 oz. Jibneh Arabieh Cheese (or 14.3 oz. Ricotta Fresca) – Jibneh might be hard to find, so Ricotta will work well. 
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 ½ cup Water
  • Juice of ½ Lemon
  • 6-8 Saffron Threads – can be found in many stores or on Amazon
  • 2 oz. Marzipan (good quality)
  • 2 Apples
