The 47-year-old overseas lesbian Filipino worker who has been in Israel for the past six years working as caregiver to an ailing woman in her 50’s has won the 2013 “X Factor Israel” singing talent competition.
Rose Fontanes, got a standing ovation on her rendition of Frank Sinatra’s favorite song “My Way” as she captured the winning verdict of the judges Tuesday of the world-renowned singing talent competition.

“Thank you for giving me the chance to be in the ‘X Factor Israel,'” she said after winning the contest, recalling how she started as an underdog in the early stages of the competition.
“I feel that everybody is looking at me like I was an alien,” she told Reuters on one of the early audition episodes of the show. “A Filipina working here, cleaning houses.”
Fontanes got the surprise of her life when she was given a standing ovation with her own rendition of the song “You and I” which was popularized by Lady Gaga.
After her initial live appearance on Israel TV, she was surprised of the text votes she got from viewers which eventually catapulted her to Tuesday’s victory.
The Filipino LGBT community in Israel will hold a victory party for Rose Fostanes, the first winner of X-Factor Israel. The party will be live streamed on www.moovz.com to allow Fostanes’ fans to join in the fun. The party will start at 9 p.m., Israel time, Wednesday or 4 a.m. Manila time, Thursday.
Mel Adel, Rose’s longtime partner, earlier said she and Fostanes hope to settle down after she won in the reality singing competition.
