PR & Communications Director (salary commensurate with experience)

New York, NY

A Wider Bridge is seeking a talented communications professional to lead the creation and implementation of our short and long term public relations and marketing strategies to advance the work of “equality in Israel and equality for Israel.” We’re looking for an incredibly driven individual with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience, with great storytelling instincts, who can build meaningful relationships with media/press and will significantly increase the visibility and messaging of the organization through engaging digital and print content. This role reports to the Senior Director of Programs and Strategy.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Public Relations

  • Develop pitches and secure media placements in target media outlets and respond to media inquiries
  • Write and edit compelling content for distribution across multiple channels, including press releases, op-eds, press statements, social media channels, story pitches, web content, newsletters, emails and other marketing materials that communicate the organization’s goals, activities and/or impact
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists and maintain a media database
  • Increase the visibility of our programs through media and press relations
  • Support interviews, press briefings and other media engagements to advance the organization’s mission with national and international media
  • Plan and manage events, speaker submissions, and other thought leadership opportunities
  • Prospect and cultivate relationships with journalists and media outlets
  • Pitch A Wider Bridge and related content to digital, print, and media channels
  • Provide direction to staff, partners, Mission Alumni and other stakeholders to publish op-eds, statements, and other relevant messaging
  • Field all press inquiries and manage relationships with press, including press kits, briefings, talking points, etc.
  • Direct rapid response communication strategies to current events in real-time, guided by the mission, messaging guidance, and positions of the organization

Digital Media

  • Stay up to date on social media trends and develop strategies to attract influencers, grow our audience and increase engagement
  • Draft, edit, design, and post content across platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • Maintain a content calendar for social media, newsletters, and editorials
  • Implement online advertising and other growth strategies to increase social media followers; implement strategies to grow email mailing list
  • Manage organizational website and update content to accurately reflect the work of the organization and manage engagement using the most up-to-date trends
  • Track key metrics to monitor the success of online engagement strategies
  • Partner with development staff to plan and execute email and fundraising campaigns
  • Collaborate with programming staff to elevate the impact of the organization and our partners

Branding

  • Seek opportunities to enhance the reputation of the brand with media and across multiple marketing and communication channels; plan, develop and deliver publicity campaigns and evaluate their success
  • Develop and update brochures, media kits, fact sheets, and other marketing materials; Ensure brand consistency across the organization
  • Curate and develop collateral, including flyers, brochures, and other printed materials that promote the mission and brand of the organization
  • Manage outside vendors and contractors including graphic designers, printers, photographers, and others to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality products

Desired Skills And Qualifications

  • minimum of 5-7 years of public relations, communications and/ or marketing experience
  • Excellent writer (a writing assignment will be given), editor and creative storyteller
  • Proven success in pitching and securing press; Able to establish and grow relationships with media contacts at the national, regional, and local levels
  • Proven track record of growing social media presence
  • Organized self-starter, able to prioritize and deliver under a high-pressure environment
  • Superior oral, writing, and editing skills with strong attention to detail
  • Experience in digital/social/PR analytics; measurement and reporting processes
  • Experience in graphic design, Mailchimp, and WordPress a plus
  • Knowledge of Israel and Israel advocacy, LGBTQ issues, and Jewish communities a plus
