Juval Porat, who serves as a cantor at LA’s LGBT synagogue Beth Chayim Chadashim, releases “Here’s to Us,” a new song that was written for Transgender Day of Remembrance. Download the song here
“Here’s to Us” was written by BCC member Tamara Kline for Josh Gershick and was first performed at the synagogue on Transgender Day of Remembrance in 2014. Following the good responses on the song, Juval sang it again at the BCC Awards Brunch in honor of Awardee Jeffrey Tambor for his role as Maura Pfefferman in the original Amazon series Transparent and at the 40th anniversary celebration of the Israeli LGBT Task Force.
The song was also featured on A Wider Bridge’s official video for 2015 LGBTQ Israel Mission.
“It’s been an honor for me to be singing on this track, as it gives thanks to those who’ve come before us, who have paved the way to a more open and accepting society and those who are currently to change minds and hearts,” Juval tells A Wider Bridge.
“I hope it provides courage and comfort and encouragement to all who struggle to find a place where they can be themselves to find a love inside they can trust. Here’s to us!”
The song was produced by Robb Torres, who also produced several tracks on Optimism, Juval’s most recent album.
Transgender Day of Remembrance which honors the memory of those murdered because of anti-transgender prejudice, is recognized annually on November 20. Purchase “Here’s to us”
