SUMMARY:The Holy Closet followed by a mini concert by Chanan Ben Simon
DESCRIPTION:What does the wedding ceremony of two religious Jewish gay men look like? Or a family of two mothers and 4 children? Or the pregnancy of a trans religious man? These are some of the questions raised in this documentary. It tells the stories of LGBTQ people who chose to remain religious Jews and to build their lives\, relationships\, families\, and everyday activities according to the Jewish religion.

SUMMARY:Pride Shabbat
DESCRIPTION:With Pride Month approaching\, we invite you to our annual community-wide Pride Shabbat 2024. We will gather as a diverse Jewish community to celebrate both Pride and Shabbat in our LGBTQ+ Jewish wholeness. Please join us on June 21 from 6:00-9:00pm for a Pride Shabbat service\, followed by a vegetarian dinner. This year’s Pride Shabbat will take place at the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre\, located at 750 Spadina Ave. \nThis event centres LGBTQ+ Jewish community members. Allies to both Jewish and LGBTQ+ communities are more than welcome to join us. Families are encouraged to bring children\, with programming offered by Machane Lev for those aged 7-17. Services will be led by Cantor Cheryl Wunch\, Kohenet Annie Matan\, and Aviva Chernick. \nTickets cost $25 for adults and $10 for children. If this cost is prohibitive to your attendance\, you are welcome to select the $18 ticket option. We likewise invite those who can sponsor a community member’s dinner to select to pay $36 to offset somebody else’s meal cost. If the reduced fee is still a barrier to your attendance\, please reach out to emunahw@mnjcc.org for further conversation. \nWe are committed to ensuring our programming is accessible to anybody who wishes to attend. The MNjcc is wheelchair accessible and has gender neutral washrooms. The Shabbat service portion of the evening will have ASL interpretation\, and is mask mandatory. We ask that folks who are not feeling well stay home and encourage attendees to wear masks whenever you are not eating. We kindly request that all national flags be left at home\, but Pride flags are encouraged. In consideration of the difficult moment we are in\, this event will have peer support available if you need to step out and talk to somebody\, and there will be a lower-sensory room for the duration of the meal\, to reduce overstimulation. Please email emunahw@mnjcc.org with any accessibility questions or requests and we will work together to find ways for you to join us. \nThis event is supported by the Kolel Legacy Fund at the Jewish Foundation.

SUMMARY:Understanding Gaslighting & Pinkwashing
DESCRIPTION:Join two experts–Dr. Corinne Blackmer and Dr. Josh Simmons– as we explore efforts to silence\, marginalize\, and distort Zionism as well as the achievements of the Israeli LGBTQ community. Bring your questions.\n\n\n\nIn the wake of October 7\, words and phrases have been weaponized against the LGBTQ supporters of Israel. While accusations are plentiful\, answers and context are rarer. \nJoin Dr.’s Corinne Blackmer and Josh Simmons in exploring what gaslighting and pinkwashing mean\, and how words have been used to further marginalize many in our community. \nPlease bring your questions\, your stories and your full authentic selves to our check-in on June 24 at 12:00 pm ET for an opportunity to connect. \n\nThis webinar is intended for LGBTQ supporters of Israel and their loved ones and will address how discourse can impact an already marginalized community. There will be time for questions at the conclusion of the program\, and attendees are encouraged to use the Q and A feature during the webinar. \nCorinne E. Blackmer\, PhD is professor of English and Judaic Studies and Director of Judaic Studies at Southern Connecticut State University\, and an affiliate professor at University of Haifa.  She has written numerous articles on a wide array of subjects\, from Jewish ethics and pink washing to Jewish women’s graphic novels and modernism.  She recently completed a book which won the National Jewish Book Award\, Queering Anti-Zionism: LGBTQ Intellectuals\, Academic Freedom\, and Israel/Palestine Campus Activism and also edited (with Andrew Pessin) a collection of essays\, Poisoning the Wells: Antisemitism in Contemporary America.  She is currently completing a memoir about her maternal grandmother\, who was a woman’s reproductive health advocate.  The title is\, My Grandmother as an Abortionist before Roe. \nJoshua Simmons\, PsyD is a Jungian psychoanalyst\, licensed psychologist\, and clinical supervisor. His past clinical research focuses on cultural trauma and the intergenerational transmission of trauma and resilience among ethnic minorities. He maintains a private practice in San Francisco\, CA.
