Class of 2013: First Photos!

Twenty-two LGBTQ participants from the United States (and the UK!) landed in Tel Aviv on Wednesday for A Wider Bridge’s 3rd annual LGBTQ journey to Israel. First photos are here.

The journey started this year in the Negev with a night in Kfar Hanokdim, an exotic Israeli Kibbutz in the desert.  Spectacular views. After eating a delicious Bedouin-style dinner, the group took a walk under the magnificent desert sky, got to know each other and told their LGBT/Jewish stories.

On the way to Tel Aviv on Thursday, the group stopped at the Dead Sea to experience Earth’s lowest elevation and to take the iconic being-covered-with-mud pictures.

The weekend was completely dedicated to Tel Aviv, starting with a meeting with Leading Israeli LGBT leaders and activists, followed by an LGBT Community Picnic in the famous gardens of Gan Meir, the park in which the LGBT Center is situated.  Leaders and representatives who met the group included Shai Doitsh and Natalie Sade from the Aguda, Elisha Alexander and other leading Israeli transgender activists, Hoshen’s Executive Director Irit Zvieli-Efrat and more.

Saturday and Sunday evenings were dedicated to Israel’s LGBT entertainment.

On Saturday the group met three emerging artists (Yehonathan Gatro, David Lavi and Dudu Yzhaki) who answered questions and sang for them, and last night they had a special screening of short Israeli LGBT films conducted by TLV Fest’s creative director Yair Hochner.
