AWB’s 2019 Christian Clergy Mission to Israel

Our historic LGBTQ Clergy Leadership Mission to Israel and the West Bank has just concluded, with 14 diverse LGBTQ clergy members from Protestant denominations who were on a joint mission in partnership with the Israel Action Network (IAN).

On the Israel/Lebanon Border

We had an inspiring week – visiting with LGBTQ leaders in Tel Aviv, discussing the challenges of peacemaking with retired IDF Colonel Miri Eisin, and meeting the incredible Arab and Israeli women from Together Beyond Words who work together to promote peace. We ventured to the north of Israel where we spoke about key security issues, and we also met with a Druze family to learn about their culture.

We thank our co-chairs Reverend Dr. Neil Cazares-Thomas, Senior Pastor of the Cathedral of Hope in Dallas, TX, and Rabbi Denise Eger, Founding Rabbi of Congregation Kol Ami in West Hollywood, CA for their support and leadership during this mission. Please see their inspiring reflections below. Special shout out to AWB Board Member Rabbi Gil Steinlauf, of Congregation Kol Shalom in Rockville, MD who has also joined the leadership team.

We look forward to the subsequent community engagement work that will emerge as we connect LGBTQ and faith communities with Israel and LGBTQ Israelis.
