When Tomer Heymann Met Natalie Portman…

Ohad Naharin, one of the most important choreographers in the world, opens his studio to filmmaker Tomer Heymann, and a new footage reveals that Academy Award winner Natalie Portman is in the movie as well – talking about her connection with Ohad.

“Twenty-two years ago, I saw a performance by Ohad Naharin and the Batsheva Dance Company,” writes Tomer Heymann, Director of the film, whose gay identity always somehow manifests itself in his movie. “This moment affected me deeply as an artist and creator. Seven years ago, After years of refusal to allow a camera into his studio, or into his personal life, Ohad finally agreed to embark on a surprising interesting and exciting journey together with me.”

“We have amassed hundreds of hours of footage, and the production has become both complex and costly,” continues Tomer, ” This is why we are inviting our audience to participate in the production and help us complete the film, each in their own way, and join the Mr. Gaga family”.

Tomer Heymann published these words in addition to a new Kickstart campaign – to help him get a “final financial push” to complete “Mr. Gaga”- a documentary on Ohad Naharin, the Batsheva Dance Company, and the Gaga movement language.

“I remember before I shot Black Swan that [Ohad] called me and he said ‘always keep remembering to find the pleasure in the pain’…” says Natalie Portman in the promo, “It’s very exciting that Ohad is allowing filmmakers into his studio for the first time.”
