We’ve just recovered from the Tel Aviv pride parade and here’s another gay reason to go to Tel Aviv: The city that never sleeps has announced ‘Tel Aviv Water Games,’ a queer sports festival.
This is a week of celebration of pride and Sports (October 15-21 2015), which includes sports competitions, cultural and sports activities that are open to the general public, and (of course) special parties. The event is hoping to give another reason for LGBT tourists to come to the city and for the Israeli community to come watch and participate in the competitions.
Producers hope that like the Pride Parade, which takes place every year in June, this event will take place in Tel Aviv every year and will be the sports experience at the beginning of winter.
Tel Aviv Water Games (TWG) are an initiative of the former chairman of the Aguda, Shay Deutsch, and the company Issta Sport and conducted in partnership with the Municipality of Tel Aviv-Jaffa and Tel Aviv LGBT Sports Club and supported by the Ministry of Tourism.
As part of TWG2015, delegations from various sports clubs in Europe, the United States and other places will compete in nine areas of sports at seven venues around the city.
Gordon Beach will host Beach Volleyball competitions and World Championship Paddles. Swimming and Water polo competitions will take place at the Sports Center of Tel Aviv University. At other sports centers around the city competitions will be held in synchronized swimming, basketball and soccer. An open water swimming competition will be held in conjunction with Poseidon Club in Herzliya. Runners will join the famous Tel Aviv Night Run.
Event registration is now available at the event’s website
