Rainbow Generations in Israel

Learn, meet and mix the leaders of the LGBT community that help make Israel the only safe haven for LGBTQ in the Middle East. Engage with leaders of two of Israel’s most prominent LGBTQ organizations, Hoshen (Education and Change) and Israel Gay Youth, as they discuss the community’s needs, struggles, and triumphs today, as well as their personal experiences. Dialouge lecture, followed by light nosh mixer and an opportunity to ask questions. Avner Dafni has served as Executive Director of IGY since 2007. During his tenure IGY has enjoyed an unprecedented period of growth and expansion and is today recognized both nationally and internationally as a leading voice within the GLBT community. Today Avner is recognized internationally as a leader in the fields of youth-at-risk, LGBTQ youth and the LGBTQ movement in Israel. Avner was instrumental in setting up the communication, counseling and hotline services offered for teens and young adults in immediate response to the tragic shooting in Tel Aviv in 2009. In his capacity as executive director of IGY he has become a driving force in efforts to change public attitudes towards the LGBTQ community. Irit Zviely-Efrat is the CEO of Hoshen. Under Irit’s direction, with the help of over 200 volunteers, Hoshen has doubled the number of schools in which in operates, as well as expanded its academic conferences and the number of organizations with which Hoshen works, including the Israeli army and police.
