The documentary ‘Before You Know It,’ which focuses on the lives of LGBT adults and will be shown for free March 30 in conjunction with Jewish Family Service.
Getting older can be difficult, but in the LGBT community, aging can present its own set of challenges. Jewish Family Service will host a showing of the documentary “Before You Know It” March 30.
The film focuses on the lives of three LGBT senior adults who have surmounted prejudice and defied expectation to form communities of strength, renewal and camaraderie. Dennis, who is a widower and is retired from the military, has come out as a cross-dresser in his 70s and finds acceptance at the Rainbow Vista Retirement Community; Ty, an African-American in Harlem, sets up the first gay booth at a Harlem street fair; and Robert is the owner of a drag bar in New Orleans.
The event begins with refreshments at 5:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 6 p.m. There will be an open discussion following the film.
