Israeli Elections Campaigns Heat Up

Gay and lesbian couples got married outside of Bayit Yehudi headquarters in Rosh Haayin to protest the party’s opposition for same sex weddings.

Meretz held mock weddings for gay and lesbian couples outside Bayit Yehudi headquarters in Rosh Haayin to protest the latter party’s opposition to gay marriage Monday.

The weddings, conducted by MK Michal Rosin (Meretz), are not recognized by the government and it is illegal for anyone not recognized as a rabbi by the Chief Rabbinate to perform a wedding.

Still, Rosin said she was “proud and excited” to conduct the wedding and called Bayit Yehudi “dark and homophobic.”
