A Wider Bridge’s Midwest Manager of Programs and Operations Laurie Grauer has joined Equality Illinois’ Community Advisory Group.
In her role, Laurie and her colleagues will be informing, advising, and challenging Equality Illinois- an organization that advances equal treatment and social justice for LGBT people- about opportunities for and obstacles to lived equality and inclusion in every part of Illinois. Laurie Joins the Advisory Group in a perfect timing as Equality Illinois is currently in the process of building its policy agenda for 2017 and beyond.
The Equality Illinois Community Advisory Group consists of 28 LGBTQ individuals and allies from across the state of Illinois to engage with Equality Illinois in the policy development and agenda building necessary to secure and advance LGBTQ equality, social justice, and intersectional action in Illinois.
Laurie is an activist in both in LGBTQ and Jewish communities. She co-founded the Illinois Interfaith Coalition for Civil Unions, a statewide task force of religious institutions who mobilized their congregations to lobby of behalf of Civil Unions. She was the Executive Director and Co-Founder of Gesher Chicago, which worked to connect LGBTQ Jews and allies to the greater Chicagoland Jewish community, and she served as the Social Action Chair for Congregation Or Chadash, a local LGBTQ synagogue. In her previous career as a direct service provider, Laurie worked with several social service agencies including AIDS Foundation of Chicago, Children’s Home and Aid, Thresholds, and Ezra Multi-Service Center. Laurie holds a BA in Education from DePaul University, an MSW from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Illinois.
