A Wider Bridge Statement in Regards to the Anti-Semtic Materials that Appeared Around the UIC Campus

A Wider Bridge is a pro-Israel LGBTQ organization that believes steadfastly in engagement, pluralism, communal responsibility and social justice. We stand with all Jewish students of the University of Illinois at Chicago and others who were the recent targets of anti-Semitic materials that were disseminated on the UIC Campus on March 15th.

We applaud the swift actions taken by the University Administration to investigate this matter and for publicly stating that: “UIC strives to be an environment free of invidious discrimination in all of its forms, including discrimination based on race, color, religion, disability, national origin, citizenship status, gender identity and sexual orientation.”

A series of anti-Semitic fliers found last week as well as Saturday in a variety of locations on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago. “Ending white privilege … starts with ending Jewish privilege,” reads one flier that includes a drawing of a pyramid that claims that Jews make up a disproportionate share of the “top 1 percent” of the U.S. even though they represent a small percent of the overall population.
