Building A Wider Bridge at American University

A Wider Bridge is pleased to be partnering with AUSFI (American University Students for Israel), American University Hillel and other campus organizations to bring events and activities about LGBT Israel to the American University campus.

Our partnership began November, 2011 with an Out in Israel Month including a November 9 presentation by the Aguda and a November 16 screening of Assi Azar’s film “Mom and Dad, I Have Something to Tell You.” Here is what AUSFI had to say about the events:

Out in Israel Month

Assi Azar: Together with A Wider Bridge, the Embassy of Israel, AU Hillel, the Center for Israel Studies, the Gay, Lesbian,
Bisexual, Transgender and Allied Resource Center (GLBTA RC) and Queers and Allies, we hosted Assi Azar, an openly gay rising TV star and screen writer in Israel. Azar screened his film, Mom and Dad, I Have Something to Tell You, focused on the experience of children coming out from the parents’ perspective.
Over 75 students came out for the screening and we had a great talk back after the film with Azar. Students from the LGBT and allied communities had a great time and mingled with members of the Israel community on campus to develop new
friendships and relationships.
The Aguda:  Together with A Wider Bridge, AU Hillel, the Center for Israel Studies, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Allied Resource Center (GLBTA RC) and Queers and Allies, we hosted Anat Avissar and Mike Hamel of the Aguda, the National LGBT Task Force of Israel. Their discussion touched on their personal stories, their work in the community and the evolution of the LGBT community in Israel.
Nearly 30 students and faculty came out for the discussion and we had an amazing dialogue and leadership reception before
hand with student leaders from the interfaith, Jewish and LGBT communities, including the Student Government
President.
