AWB Announces Partnership with ICC, Israel on Campus Coalition
A Wider Bridge is pleased to announce our partnership with the Israel on Campus Coalition (ICC), a national network of students, faculty, and professionals dedicated to strengthening the pro-Israel movement on campus.
A Wider Bridge adds a unique and necessary form of Israel advocacy to the pro-Israel campus movement – engaging North American LGBTQ students with Israel through a familiar LGBT lens. A Wider Bridge advocacy is centered on education, engagement and experience – allowing LGBT Jews and non-Jews to discover and build a relationship with an Israel that is personally meaningful. Since 2010, A Wider Bridge has brought dynamic LGBT Israelis in film, culture, and politics to share their work and their lives on North American campuses.
For the 2014-2015 academic year, the Israel on Campus Coalition offers ICC Israel Solidarity Grants to students, faculty, and campus professionals. These grants support campus initiatives that demonstrate visible public support for the State of Israel. A Wider Bridge will offer LGBT programming and engagement opportunities to pro-Israel student leaders looking to engage LGBT campus communities and individuals with Israel.
A Wider Bridge’s Executive Director, Arthur Slepian, reflects, “Since our young organization’s founding in 2010, campus engagement has been a key part of our work. College students who care about Israel and want to engage with it in positive ways often face deep-seated challenges and opposition. AWB empowers campus leaders and fosters dialogue and engagement with LGBT students through shared LGBT experiences in North America and Israel. Our partnership with ICC will introduce AWB to campuses and student leaders far beyond our current reach. We are thrilled to be a part of ICC’s dynamic and diverse pro-Israel campus movement.”
Jacob Baime, Executive Director of ICC, adds “The pro-Israel community on campus celebrates Israel for its core values of democracy and freedom including respect for minority rights. We are thrilled to partner with an organization that focuses on Israel advocacy within the LGBT community and warmly welcome AWB to the diverse pro-Israel community on campuses nationwide.
